In Bahubali 2 Movie, Kattappa picks up the story of Amarendra Baahubali. After defeating the Kalakeyas, Bahubali is named the heir apparent, with Bhallaladeva serving as his commander. Sivagami sends Baahubali on a covert tour of the kingdom, accompanied by Kattappa, while she searches for a suitable queen for him. During the journey, Baahubali witnesses Princess Devasena of Kuntala courageously defending her kingdom from attackers, which sparks his admiration for her. Disguised, he approaches her and is eventually accepted into the royal palace of Kuntala as a guard.
Bhallaladeva admires a portrait of Devasena, and Sivagami assures him that their marriage will take place, sending an envoy to Kuntala. However, Devasena rejects the proposal, and Bijjaladeva manipulates Sivagami into ordering Bahubali to capture her. In Kuntala, Baahubali and Kattappa defend the palace from an attack alongside Devasena and her cousin Kumara Varma. During the battle, Kattappa reveals that Baahubali is the future King of Mahishmati, and Bahubali proposes to Devasena, who accepts. As the truth comes out, Sivagami gives Baahubali an ultimatum to choose between the crown and Devasena. Baahubali chooses Devasena, leading to Bhallaladeva being crowned King, with Baahubali serving as his commander. Despite this, Baahubali remains beloved by the people.
While Devasena is pregnant, Bhallaladeva ousts Baahubali from his position and replaces him with Sethupathi, a court official. Devasena openly protests this decision, demanding that Baahubali be crowned as a gift to her. Eventually, Baahubali and Devasena are exiled after Baahubali kills Sethupathi in defense of Devasena’s honor.
