Movie Plot/Summary
Captain Eddie “Reaper” Grimm, a US Air Force drone pilot with the 15th Attack Squadron, teams up with Staff Sergeant Nia Branson to provide crucial air support from a Reaper drone to a US Army Delta Force unit on a mission to rescue a CIA agent in the southern Philippines. Amid a firefight with Abu Sayyaf militants, Sergeant JJ Kinney—an Air Force TACP (callsign “Playboy”) attached to the Delta Force team as a JTAC—appears to be the only survivor. With no one else left, he must rely solely on the Reaper’s remote air support to reach the extraction point.
Upon Kinney’s arrival, he is intercepted by the Abu Sayyaf, leading to the depletion of Grimm’s drone’s ammunition, which includes AGM-114 Hellfire and BLU-118 munitions. This forces the extraction helicopter, already in danger, to withdraw. As Kinney attempts to reach another extraction point, he tumbles down a hill, loses his rifle, runs out of ammunition for his pistol, and is ultimately captured. However, one of his squadmates, Master Sergeant John “Sugar” Sweet, is revealed to be alive and rescues Kinney. Sweet informs him that Sergeant Bishop has been taken prisoner at Abu Sayyaf’s base, located within a series of caves near their original mission site. Using Sweet’s radio, Kinney contacts Grimm, who arranges for three bombings to target the base, each set 15 minutes apart. However, Grimm and Branson are ordered by their superiors to stand down after exceeding their duty hours. Kinney and Sweet then launch a raid on one of Sayyaf’s facilities, only to be captured and transported to their prison.
Sweet is executed just as the first surface-level bomb explodes, and Kinney is captured to be tortured. The rebel leader dismisses Kinney’s warning about the impending bombings. When the bombs strike, Kinney survives by being submerged in a water tub, while his captors are consumed by the flames. Seizing a machete, Kinney kills the remaining leader, takes his satellite phone, and contacts Nellis Air Force Base, urging Grimm to cancel the third bombing, just before the phone’s battery dies.
