Movie Plot/Summary
Jennifer “Jen” Shaw, her boyfriend Darius, and couples Adam and Milla, along with Gary and Luis, arrive in a quaint, rural town in Virginia to embark on a hike along the Appalachian Trail. However, they are met with hostility from the locals at a nearby bar, particularly from a man named Nate. During their visit, Jen crosses paths with an enigmatic woman named Edith, who is accompanied by a young, mute girl named Ruthie.
The group embarks on their hike and, despite being warned, strays from the trail in search of an old fort. Suddenly, a massive tree trunk tumbles down the hill, crushing Gary fatally. Bruised, disoriented, and now lost, the group sets up camp for the night. The next morning, Milla vanishes, along with their cellphones. In their search, they discover a plaque dated “1859,” honoring the founding of a group of settlers in the mountains known as the “Foundation,” who believed the end of the United States was imminent.
As Adam searches for Milla, he activates a trap and is pulled into a pit. Meanwhile, Jen, Darius, and Luis discover a barn filled with backpacks and clothes. They then spot Adam, tied to a pole and being carried by two men wearing bizarre costumes and animal skull masks. The friends step forward to confront the mysterious men.
